A lantern in the dark

Relume Health began with a patient's experience.

Four years ago, Alena Kondratyeva was diagnosed with kidney failure. As a single mother, she suddenly found herself navigating dialysis treatments, medications, hospital visits, and a complex healthcare system while still trying to take care of her family.

Very quickly it became clear that managing kidney failure was not just about the illness itself. It was also about managing information.

Most of the process relied heavily on paperwork. Test results, medication updates, dialysis notes, transplant evaluations, and instructions from different specialists were often provided as printed documents. Over time, the amount of paperwork became overwhelming.

Information was scattered between dialysis clinics, hospitals, specialists, and transplant coordinators. As a patient, it was extremely difficult to understand what had already been completed and what still needed to happen.

There were moments when those gaps had serious consequences.

• Delayed medications.
• Painful complications.
• Bleeding during dialysis.
• Multiple surgeries to repair dialysis access.

The transplant listing process added another layer of confusion. There were many required steps to be placed on the transplant list — tests, evaluations, approvals, and appointments. But there was no simple way to see where you were in the process.

Relume Health was created to help solve these problems. The platform is designed to help kidney patients track their health, organize medical information, monitor dialysis and fluid intake, and understand their progress through complex processes like transplant preparation.
